For the last few weeks I’ve been trying to figure out a way to help out someone in my life who has shaped and made me the person I am today. That is my mother.
Nanette.
For those of you who don’t know, at the end of August my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Within two weeks of that diagnosis she lost her job, was scheduled for a lumpectomy, and in the pre-surgery testing, found out that she had a heart attack at some time in her past.
When she lost her job, her insurance went with it.
Luckily there are some provisions for people in this circumstance, and there will be considerable coverage for the treatment. :)
Regardless, there is obviously a great deal of strain placed on her economically, spiritually and emotionally.
She came through her surgery very well, they did find cancer in a few of the lymph nodes. We are awaiting her treatment plan, the Dr. told her to prepare for some chemotherapy. Her spirits are high and she has a ton of love and care headed her way.
This is my attempt to send some more her way.
I had been trying to figure out a way to help out in a seemingly helpless situation. I know many people who have had their lives touched by sickness and specifically this type of cancer. You never really know what it means until it happens to you though, and I now understand better.
Here is my plea.
Some of you may know that I am running my first full Marathon in November here in Philadelphia. That’s a full 26.2 miles – insane but training for this has been about the only thing to keep me sane (as sane as I can be). Originally I started to train for this as a way to be stronger for myself, to accomplish something I thought I never could. That all changed.
I write to you today, and start this website, because I want to run this race in a fundraising / donation / sponsorship effort to raise some $$$$$ for Nanette.
It’s an unofficial charity run if you will. Depending on the amount raised, it is my intention to give the funds to mom for help with her bills and then what is leftover will be donated to a Breast Cancer Organization to be determined by mom.

If you go to this website
I will keep you updated on my training, on Nanette’s fight, and hopefully open some dialogue with everyone here ------ words of wisdom and encouragement for anyone else who is going thru this.
At the top of the page there will be a PayPal link in order to take any, and all donations for my momma.
If you can't make a donation, then all the well wishes and love you can send her way is more than welcomed.
I thank you more than you can know.

You're an angel Nate.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your mom is going through this and I am sending her and you all the positive vibes and love I have from San Diego. I'm happy to support you in this effort, emotionally and financially...run, baby run.
Much love and support,
Liz & Brian Hansen
Hi Nate,
ReplyDeleteI don't know you but anyone who Liz cares about is someone I care about. Please use this donation in whatever way will best support your mom during this difficult time.
Deb
Nate,
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't done so already, contact Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a local organization that provides services and support to women battling breast cancer. They have a special grant fund dedicated specifically to women who are struggling financially, providing them with some extra funds to pay the bills. LBBC is a great organization.
